GSSllp Partner, Paul Vega, has recently returned from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) 2019 Members Forum in Edinburgh. Paul attended as a regional representative in his capacity as the Vice Chair of the CIOB Northampton Hub Committee which covers a large part of the local area including Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes, Coventry and Bedford.
Each year, the CIOB brings together leading construction professionals from its membership across the globe for a Members’ Forum. This annual event is where the views and opinions of members are considered, discussed and debated.
During the week, Paul attended key membership meetings, workshops and debates where members came together to focus on the needs of the industry, and the institute. He also helped to shape the strategic direction of the organisation, offering thoughts and opinions on corporate plans and key developments. The Members’ Forum was also used to tackle important topics impacting the construction industry, such as modern slavery, quality, mental health and wellbeing.
One of the key moments of the week for many in attendance was the mental health and wellbeing debate, which focused on the issues in the construction industry, and the steps we can take to improve wellbeing both inside and outside of the industry. The event was live streamed across the world, and is available to view on the CIOB website if you would like to see it for yourself.
Paul was thrilled to have been able to attend the forum, and said “I met a great deal of truly inspirational people over the week and feel privileged to have been part of such an event. I have learnt a great deal and will use this to help not only improve the Northampton Hub but also help strengthen GSS as much of what I have learnt is transferable and useful to implement within our business”.
